Cooking can be a science but it doesn’t need to be something difficult. Simple changes can make your cooking from good to great. Don’t worry we’ve got you covered with ways to improve and feel more confident in the kitchen. Here are our tips, trick and secrets that improve your cooking game:

Tip #1 – Equip Yourself with the Right Tools
To create a flavorful dish, it’s essential to start with the proper equipment. A sharp knife, a reliable pan, and other basic cooking tools are key. While they won’t directly enhance the taste, they streamline the cooking process and set you up for success. A quality knife not only speeds up prep work but also reduces the risk of accidents.

When chopping ingredients, be sure to use the claw technique. This involves curling your fingers back, so the knife glides along the flat surface of your knuckles, providing a safe and steady guide for precise cutting.

Tip #2 – Be patient. Cooking takes time. Lower the heat on your pan and let it warm up slowly. Use this time to season your food. This helps avoid burning or undercooking the inside.

Tip #3 – Taste as you cook. Try your food as you are cooking it. This is one of the most important things to cooking. It will help you figure out if you need to as more seasoning or if it needs to cook a little longer.

Tip #4 – Marinate your protein in advance to enhance its flavor. Allowing the spices or sauce to penetrate the meat not only infuses it with rich taste but also helps tenderize it by breaking down the proteins. Even a short marination time—just 30 minutes to an hour—can make a noticeable difference, delivering a deeper, more savory flavor everyone will appreciate.

Tip #5Score your meat. Fish with skin still on it for example or duck with a fat top. By adding shallow crisscross cut marks to your protein, it will allow more flavor to infuse the meat. Also, will help reduce the cook time and for fish give you a nice crispy texture. When you score bread, it adds a design to the loaf making it more visually pleasing.

Tip #6 – The timing of when you add salt can significantly influence your dish’s flavor. Adding salt at the beginning helps break down ingredients and draw out moisture. During cooking, it enhances flavor development and deepens the dish’s richness. For a final touch, add salt at the end to cater to personal taste preferences.

Tip #7 – Bast your protein. You can use butter with some herbs or even wine. This is the process of spooning the liquid over the meat to allow the flavor to soak in and enhance the meat. Once you are done let the meat rest on a metal rack or cutting board before slicing. This will allow the flavors to soak back into the meat keeping all the flavor from leaking out.

Tip #8 – Cornstarch will save any sauce or gravy. By mixing cornstarch with water then adding it to the sauce or gravy it will act as a thickening agent. This will save you from having to make a roux keeping your dish gluten free for all those gluten intolerant people in the world.

Tip #9 – toasting spices before you use them. By placing them in a pan and lightly heating them up it will bring out the flavor and aroma of the spices.

Tip #10 – After searing a protein, skip washing the pan. Instead, deglaze it with wine, cream, water, or stock. Adding liquid lifts all the flavorful bits from the pan, creating a rich sauce that thickens as it reduces. Plus, it saves you cleaning time!
